Date: 2024-04-22

According to a report from the Kwara State Government official Facebook page, The Kwara State Ministry of Environment has moved swiftly to address concerns of suspected meat poisoning at Mandate Market in Ilorin. Dr. Abubakar Ayinla, the ministry's Permanent Secretary, announced the temporary closure of the market's abattoir for fumigation and thorough cleaning as part of efforts to safeguard public health.

This development serves as an update to an earlier report on the situation at Mandate Market. Government officials, including Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Toyosi Thomas-Adebayo, Commissioner for Health Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, and key personnel from the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Health, converged at the market to activate measures aimed at protecting public health amidst rumors of poisoned cow meat.

The government has taken immediate action by confiscating all suspected meat for laboratory analysis following engagements with Mandate Market stakeholders. Additional updates will be provided as necessary.

While investigations are underway, the government urges the public to remain calm and assures them of efforts to ascertain the truth behind the suspected meat poisoning. The cooperation of the market's leadership thus far has been commended by the government.
