Fulani Leader Decries Ethnic Profiling of Criminals in Kwara
The Ahron (Seriki Fulani) of Kwara South senatorial district, Alhaji Adamu Mahmud, has called for collaboration in tackling insecurity in the country saying that the tagging of perpetrators of the menace to a tribe could be a diversionary tactic by those sponsoring the evil act.
The Ahron made the call while speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Thursday over the recent kidnapping in the state and killing of a monarch saying tagging crimes or criminal activities to a tribe will not help the country especially now that the nation needs unity among its citizens.
The Fulani leader frowned at tagging his tribe to kidnapping said, “People are always quick to tag kidnapping and other criminal activities to Fulani without waiting for security agencies to do their work by investigating perpetrators of the criminal act.
“Take for instance the case of the two monarchs that were killed in Ekiti State and the one in Kwara South, some people had earlier pointed accusing fingers at Fulanis as the culprits of the crime, but not until security agents apprehended some suspects adding that criminality has nothing to do with a particular tribe.”
Adamu however applauded the security agencies for their investigation and arrest of the culprits which made people know and have a clear picture of those behind the crime.
He urged Nigerians to always see themselves as one big family, saying no country or society can develop in an atmosphere of disunity and rancor.
The Fulani leader also advised the traditional rulers from Kwara South to always enlighten their people on self-security and inform them of the role to play in curbing the menace.
Recently, the Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State was murdered in his palace while his wife Olori Iyabo, and a maid were kidnapped.
The police later arrested 13 suspects who were charged to a Kwara State Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder.
Those arrested and charged before the court included Godwin Jacob, Olowofela Oyebanji, Adefalolu Ayodele, Tewasie Francis, Babatunde Samuel, Godwin Joseph, Issa Number, and Miracle Solomon.
Others were Abraham Kehinde, Muhammed Bello, Muhammed Muhammed, Ahmadu Umaru, and Muhammed Dankai.
