…3,595 teachers, headteachers from six local government areas to be trained in January 2024
….80,000 additional pupils to benefit from KwaraLEARN reform
Over 80,000 additional pupils from six local government areas – Edu, Ifelodun, Isin, Kaiama, Moro, and Oyun – in Kwara State are set to benefit as their teachers undergo KwaraLEARN (Kwara Leading Education Achievement and Reform Now) Induction Training.
The first wave of training which is being conducted for 1,762 teachers and headteachers drawn from 565 government primary schools is part of the expansion plan for KwaraLEARN, a basic education reform programme that is already revolutionizing teaching and learning in 872 primary schools across the state.
A total of 3,595 teachers are expected to complete their KwaraLEARN Induction training this month.
This expansion to the six additional local government areas will see the programme reaching every public primary school in Kwara, catering to over 200,000 pupils.
KwaraLEARN was launched by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in direct response to the decline in pupil performance and poor learning outcomes in government primary schools. The reform has been transforming literacy, numeracy and overall performance of pupils in schools where it has been implemented.
“What we are set to achieve with the ongoing training is a basic education ecosystem that is agile, technology driven and better focused on improving performance for children, irrespective of their socioeconomic backgrounds or locations,” Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the Commissioner for Education said on the first day of the training.
“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq believes that delivery of quality education is a strategy that can be used to fight poverty and build a greater Kwara, not just today but in the future,” she added.
Also speaking at the training venue, the Chairman of Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (Kwara SUBEB), Professor Raheem Adaramaja noted that, “our governor has taken steps to put the next generation of Kwarans on the path of educational excellence through KwaraLEARN. This will lead to greater development of our state.”
Trainees expressed their optimism on the improvement that will follow when they return to school. Itunuoluwa Esorun, a teacher from Muslim Community LGEA School, Oke-Onigbin expressed her excitement to be part of the process, while “thanking Governor AbdulRazaq for KwaraLEARN.”
Abubakar Ahamad, a teacher from Community Primary School Jubilee, Ifelodun local government area noted that, “this is a shift from the kind of training we have attended in the past. We are hopeful that upon return to our schools, our pupils will benefit 100%.”
Governor AbdulRazaq has created a legacy in basic education by implementing a far-reaching reform programme that has not only improved the overall performances of pupils but also the administration of government primary schools.
