LG Staff Retrenchment: Kwara Government Debunks Rumour
Kwara State government has debunked the rumour speculating round the state that the state government has retrenched some staff of Ilorin east local government.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Prince Tunji Moronfoye who declared this during an interview with Royal Times Correspondent, said the people retrenched were people discovered to be non-staff of some local government during a biometric data carried out in 2011 by the State Government.
It would be recalled that the Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) recently protested the retrenchment of 123 permanent employees of Ilorin east.
According to the commissioner, some people did not show-up for the biometric data carried out without any cogent reason, while some of them quote and un-quote were ghost workers and this have to be stopped in order to manage the little resources available in the state.
"Kwara State remains the number 33 on revenue ladder, so we have to manage our little resources.
"There is no reason for anyone to be removed from their job if they are performing to expectation but people that refuse to show –up for biometric data have to be removed.
"Some local government teachers will not go for work, they sit in Ilorin just to collect salaries and the local government said this have to be stopped, he said.
He therefore advised anyone who has cogent reasons for missing the biometric data to show-up, saying that someone cannot sit in Lagos and continue to collect kwara State money as salary.
