A magistrate court sitting in Il?rin, the Kwara State capital, has ordered the remand of one Yusuf Ajumobi Kehinde, a resident of Baboko area, Il?rin West LGA over alleged robbery.

He was dragged to court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery contrary to sections 6(8) and 1(2) of Robbery and Firearms Act.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the suspect, along with some hoodlums, invaded a community in Egbejila with guns and other dangerous weapons and attacked Alade Ahmed Olalekan, Kolade Isiaq and Abdulhamed Abdulganiyu.

“They inflicted various degrees of injuries on them, robbed them of one unregistered Haojue motorcycle, one Iphone 14, Iphone 65, one Tecno handset and other valuable properties all valued about N4.5 million.

“The alarm raised by the victims led to the arrest of one of the hoodlums later identified as Yusuf Ajumobi Kehinde from whom a motorcycle, one battle axe and some criminal charms were recovered while others escaped.

“On investigation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and indicted one Taiye (at large) as his co-culprit. Further investigation revealed that the suspect (Yusuf) is an ex-convict granted amnesty by former governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatal Ahmed but committed a similar offence after three months of freedom”, the charge sheet added.

Prosecutor, Zaccheus Folorunsho, urged the court to remand him. But the defence counsel, Toyin Onaolapo pleaded for his bail.

Magistrate AbdulRaheem Bello however ordered his remand and adjourned till December 19, 2023.
