Kwara Commercial Motorcyclists Get Uniform

Date: 2012-12-28

The Kwara State Government has said the present regulation of activities of commercial motorcycle riders popularly called Okada is to remove, identify and prosecute those using the business to commit crimes in the state.

The State Governor Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed stated this yesterday during the official restructuring of Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association and Launching of a single uniform for riders in the state held at the Government House, Ilorin.

The new green uniform for commercial motorcycle riders is to be procured at the rate of N1000 from any of the seven recognised Okada groups.

Ahmed who was represented by the Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed said government was worried about the activities of some people using motorcycle to perpetrate crimes.

According to him, the action followed series of crimes committed in the past where some motorcycle riders snatched bags and belongings from people along some major roads in Ilorin metropolis. He added that with the support of law enforcement agents, government swung into action by mobilizing all available resources in nipping the crimes in the bud.

The governor charged the seven recognized Okada groups to see government action as part of efforts to create conducive working environment as well as ensure the security of lives and property of the people.
