Naira Crisis: Kwara Offers Free Buses
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved free bus rides for students, pensioners and other vulnerable groups to cushion the effects of the lingering fuel and naira scarcity on the people.
The governor also announced cash transfers to widows, pensioners, transporters, marketers, smallholder farmers and other vulnerable people in the state.
He noted that the cash transfer would be executed by the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) for proper coordination and accountability.
In a statement yesterday, his spokesman, Rafiu Ajakaye, said, “The governor has therefore directed KWASSIP to work out the details and deploy this modest support as soon as possible to mitigate the effects of the situation.
“The governor has also directed the deployment of free buses along specific routes used by students and staff of tertiary institutions in the capital city where the effects of the fuel scarcity have been most pronounced.”
He said the free bus rides would begin on Monday, February 13.
