Ilorin residents charged to embrace clean environment culture
The Kwara State Government has again reaffirmed its readiness to get rid of any environmental nuisance to avert preventable disaster in the state.
The General Manager, Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, Alhaji Sa’ad Ayuba Dan-Musa, stated this during a physical inspection carried out on Monday in Ilorin, the state capital.
Alhaji Sa’ad Ayuba Dan-Musa, in company of the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority, Alhaji Akeem Adegboye, while addressing some traders at the Post Office Area, Ilorin Metropolis, expressed great dismay at the traders defiant flaunting of the state’s environmental laws.
Alhaji Sa’ad added that before now, KWEPA had chided the marketers on the illegal displays of their products on road setbacks, walkways and road encroachment.
He said several consultative fora had been held with the market’s executives on the issue, hence necessary action would be taken.
He reiterated that the present administration had allocated a place for the secondhand clothes sellers and other traders at Kulende Market, affirming that under the bridge is totally an unacceptable place for trading of any kind.
“We had on several occasions passed serious warnings through your trader’s union executives that you stop trading under the bridge, a place had been reserved for you at Kulende area, but you would not give serious regards to the constituted authority”, the general manager lamented.
Also speaking, the Acting Chief Executive Officer, KWARTMA, Alhaji Akeem Adegboye, said that trading under the bridge was tantamount to risking their lives against any undesired eventuality.
Adegboye urged those who indulge in illegal trading under the bridge to desist, saying that KWARTMA and KWEPA, after this warning, would swing into action immediately to ensure strict compliance to environmental laws towards ensuring safety of lives and healthier upkeep of its environment.
