3rd year anniversary: Kwara SWAN salutes Gov AbdulRazaq, seeks support on Secretariat project
The Kwara chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has saluted the “giant strides” of Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in sports development, as he marks the third year in office.
In a statement by the Secretary of the sports writing body, Olayinka Owolewa, the association commended the governor for opening a new vista in sports in the state.
It stated that the governor's strides had also assisted in broadening the sports reportage business in the state.
According to SWAN, the state government has done wonderfully well in sports, by renovating, upgrading and building new sports infrastructure in the state, which invariably, had further encouraged sports participation.
SWAN the rnoted that the government had renovated the Baseball and Softball Park, given assistance to the State FA for the completion of the Football House and also given facelift to the Kwara Football Academy hostels.
“It will not be out of place to conclude that Kwara is on the path of new redefinition in sports, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in charge.
“With the efforts of the government, Kwara United Football Club is performing in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), and has just been given a new 32-seater Coaster Bus by the government.
“It's also on record that it's one of the few top flight clubs that is not owing its players salaries.
“With all these and more, coupled with the believe that the government has the potential to do more, the governor has no doubt, assisted the trade of sports journalism in the state, by broadening the developmental scopes of sports.
“We, therefore, solicit the support of the government in assisting Kwara SWAN to complete the State Secretariat, which is under construction at the Kwara State Stadium Complex.
The Secretariat, according to SWAN, will ensure total centralisation of the operations of the body in the state.
It said such an assistance would also house the first Sports Library, as well as the hub for the training of new and upcoming sports journalists in the state.
