Oloriegbe leads in motions among Kwara Senators

The three senators from Kwara State who are beneficiaries of the o to ge political movement in the 2019 general elections sponsored 7 motions and 1 petition at midterm.

A break down of the petitions and motions sponsorship metrics shows that Sen. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe (APC, Kwara Central) sponsored 3 motions. However, there is no petition to his credit in the first half of the 9th Senate.

Oloriegbe, a medical doctor by training, sponsored a motion on ‘the urgent need to make National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) work for Nigerians’, in which he urged the NHIS to direct all Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) to pay within three (3) months all outstanding debt owed all healthcare providers in Nigeria.

Similarly, he sponsored a motion on ‘the need to make Development Aids more effective to work for Nigerians.’ He urged the National planning Commission ‘to develop a policy framework that creates mechanisms for development cooperation and aid effectiveness in Nigeria’

Sen. Sadiq Suleiman Umar (APC, Kwara North) sponsored 2 motions in the period under review. One of his motions was on the “need to pay attention to the plight of border communities in the Nigeria’ in which he urged the Federal Government to improve the funding of the Border Community Development Agency (BCDA). His second motion was “the need to mainstream the National Parks Service into the Nigerian Security Architecture”.

On his petition record, Umar has sponsored petition against the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for alleged wrongful dismissal from service of one Mr. Isah Ndagi Maiyaki.

Lastly, Sen. Ashiru Oyelola Yisa (APC, Kwara South) has sponsored a motion on “the need for liberalization of cement policy in Nigeria”, in which he urged the Federal Government to provide more industrial incentives and industrial protections such as concessionary loans and larger tax incentives for new entrants in order to boost production of cements, reduce price and encourage more valuable producers in Nigeria.

The total of 7 motions and 1 petition from the three Kwara senators makes 4.9% and 0.2% of the motions and petitions sponsored by the 9th Assembly senators during the period under review.

Meanwhile, Oloriegbe, the senator who replaced the 8th assembly senate president, Bukola Saraki had appear on the top newbies bills chart of Senators in the 9th Senate.
