Council Workers Laud Kwara over Pay

Date: 2012-11-06

The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Kwara State has lauded Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for the payment of outstanding salaries of council workers, just as his administration has made available N193 million to augment the initial N555 million released for immediate settlement of staff remuneration.

NULGE's president in the state, Mrs. Omotope Aina, made the commendation recently when she led its officials on a thank you visit to Ahmed at Government House in Ilorin.

She remarked that the offsetting of the salary arrears of the workers and their October pay, through the intervention of the state government, was a manifestation of the governor's love for them.

Responding, Ahmed emphasised that any responsible government must be people-oriented.

The governor reiterated that the delay in the payment of the salaries was to plug noticeable loopholes in the councils' finances in order to finally resolve the challenges associated with it and other overhead costs.
