Minimum Wage: Kwara Workers Give Govt Notice of Strike

Date: 2020-09-28

Labour unions in Kwara have given the State Government 14 days ultimatum to implement the national minimum wage.

President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law the wage bill in 2019, which prescribed a minimum wage of N30,000 for Nigerian worker.

The labour unions also asked for implementation of upward review of the negotiated minimum wage by fifty percent for all workers in the state.

This was part of the resolution adopted at the end of a congress meeting of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Trade Union Congress TUC and the Joint Negotiating Council on Monday in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Issa -Ore, Acting State TUC Chairman, Comrade Ezekiel Adegoke and State Chairman JNC Comrade Saliu Suleiman stated that implementation of the new minimum wage was long over due, especially with the increase in the prices of food, fuel and electricity tariff all over the country.

The unions also called for the implement of the approved ten percent outstanding CONHESS to local government workers.
