The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Bode Olayemi disclosed this while speaking at the State House of Assembly on the activities of his Ministry in the last one year as part of the oversight function of the House.

"The policy on fertilizer distribution has changed and the distribution of the commodity to farmers is now done through a growth enhancement scheme programme by the Federal Government,"he explains.

The Commissioner said the State Government is doing its best to make the state one of the most progressive and prosperous agricultural States in the Country, explaining that the aim of establishing Malete Farm was to train the youths on modern Farming Techniques.

Mr Olayemi stated that the State would continue to promote commercial agriculture and provide enabling environment for peasant farmers and citizens to profitably engage in agricultural activities beyond consumption.

He disclosed that the State Agriculture Master Plan was another milestone in the history of the State, pointing out that Memorandum of Understanding signed with other partners on Agricultural programme were coming on board very soon to add to the activities of the shonga Farm and other State owned ones.

Flooding
On the recent flooding that claimed many farms in the State, the Commissioner described it as unfortunate and explained that the state government was already working with the Federal Government to get some food items from the storage grains reserve to cushion the effect of the flooding and to avert food shortage.

Mr Olayemi said lot of things had been done to relocate the farmers to upland areas with social amenities provided for them to live comfortably.
