COVID-19: Kwara pardons additional 46 inmates

Date: 2020-05-07

The Kwara State Chief Judge, Justice Kawu Durosinloun after due consultations with the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Wednesday embarked on a custodial centre visit where he ordered the release of additional 46 inmates in the Custodial facilities in the state.

At the Old Ilorin Custodial Center, Okekura, 15 inmates were released outrightly while 23 were released on bail at the new Ilorin Custodial centre, Mandala.

Three inmates were also released outrightly and five were released on bail with a token amount of money handed over to each of the released Inmates.

According to the Chief Judge, the inmates released were low-risk offenders with minor offences and warned those granted bails not to attempt to abscond from Justice and to attend all court sittings.

He admonished the released inmates to turn a new leaf and contribute their quota towards the development of the society.

The Controller of Corrections in the state, Mr, Adebisi Adewale Francis on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Alhaji Ja'afaru Ahmed appreciated the State Chief Judge and his team for the kind gesture.

In a nutshell, Kwara State Government has magnanimously released a total number of 147 inmates in the state custodial facility.

The decision of the chief judge to release the inmates is a sequel to the presidential directive via the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the federation on the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigerian Custodial centres across the country.
