Secure release of Kaduna-bound Kwarans - AbdulRazaq

Date: 2019-09-10

The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has told the police to secure the release of six Kwara State indigenes who were kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Sunday.

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Monday, urged relations of the abductees to remain calm, saying the government was in constant touch with the security agencies over the development.

"We urge the police and other security agencies to do everything possible to free these citizens as soon as possible. We call on anyone with useful hints about this development to pass such information to the police or the nearest government offices," the statement added.

Also, the Offa Descendants Union on Monday raised the alarm over the abduction of the six men, who are members of the union.

A statement on Monday in Kaduna by the Public Relations Officer of the ODU, Maruf Ajenifuja, said the victims were travelling from Offa, Kwara State, to Kaduna when bandits attacked them around Rejana village.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command on Monday said that gunmen who attacked travellers in the Barkin Ladi Council Area of the state killed one person while five others escaped.

Spokesman for the command, Mathias Tyopev, in a statement in Jos said, "On Sunday around 8pm, the Barkin Ladi Police Division in Plateau State received a distress call that a Peugeot 504 station wagon with number plate, AA 393 TSF, was attacked by gunmen.

"The caller also said that the victims were travelling from Fanlo to Nding village when they were attacked.

The attack resulted in the death of one Stephen Samuel and Dajugu Randong. Five other persons escaped with injuries."
