KWARA ASSEMBLY CONFIRMS NOMINEES FOR 3 COMMISSIONS, STEPS DOWN KWIEC CHAIR

The Kwara State House of Assembly has confirmed the nominations of Alhaji Sakariyau Onimago and Barrister Lukman Owolewa as chairmen of the State Civil Service Commission and Fiscal Responsibility Commission respectively.

The confirmation was preceded by screening as members asked questions on how they will use their wealth of experience and requisite qualifications to impact on their new responsibilities

Also confirmed were Chief Samuel Bamisaiye and Alhaji Koro Mohammed as members of the State Civil Service Commission.

The House equally confirmed Alhaji Issa Abdul Kayode, Dr Dele Kayode, Alhaji Saidu Isa Abdullahi and Mohammed Sanni A. Alao as members of the State Independent Electoral Commission.

Also Barrister Mohammed Sulyman Atolagbe, Babatunde Abdul Raheem were confirmed as members of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.

The House however stood down the screening of Mr. Taiye Eleja as chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, due to his absence at the Floor of the House.

Meanwhile the State Freedom of Information bill,passed through Second Reading at the Floor of the House.

The Speaker, while directing the Clerk, Hajia Halimat Jummai Kperogi, to read the Bill for the second time, directed an - all - inclusive public hearing on the bill be held and report back to the House within 5 days,to see if people of the state will support the passage of the bill, to ensure enactment of a practicable and enduring Freedom of Information law in the state.

Members had while speaking on the general principles of the bill, enumerated the numerous benefits of domesticating the law in the state,with few members voicing their reservations

Member representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency, Hon. Saheed Popoola, who observed that the bill was desirable, queried the timing of its passage into law.
