Date: 2018-12-10

The Nigerian Union of Tailors (NUT), Kwara chapter says it has trained 45 indigent youths and children on fashion designing across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

The state Chairman of the union, Comrade Isiaka Abdulazeez-Ojoo disclosed this in Ilorin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the maiden edition of Tailors Day in Kwara.

NAN reports that the programme was organized by the state chapter of the union in collaboration with the Association of Women Tailors in the state.

Abdulazeez-Ojoo said that the 45 indigent children and youths were trained from the mandatory contributions of N200 per member.

The chairman said the free programme and purchase of equipment for the trainees cost the union over N2.7 million.

He also said the beneficiaries were also empowered after their freedom with sewing machines and other relevant tools.

AbfulAzeez-Ojoo said the gesture was part of the union's support for the government towards eliminating poverty and unemployment among the people.

He said the union will strive hard to increase the number of the beneficiaries on annual basis to reduce unemployment in the society.

The NUT president however, urged governments at all levels and individuals to support the union in its efforts at sustaining the programme.

AbfulAzeez-Ojoo advised the leadership of the union in other parts of the country to emulate the free training programme initiated by the Kwara chapter.

He said the maiden edition of Tailors Day was not politically motivated but designed to foster harmony and growth among members of the sister unions.

NAN reports that the programme attracted several eminent personalities from all walks of life including top government functionaries and Business moguls.
