The Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Adedayo Tandoh has described the state's second place finish at the just concluded National Youth Games (NYG) as an indication that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode's efforts in sports development has begun to yield dividends.

Team Lagos ended the championship with 23 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze medals to finish second behind Delta, which came first with 27 gold, 24 silver and 16 bronze medals.

The weightlifting event gave the state a boost with six gold, gymnastics five gold, while boxing gave three gold medals to the state, which did not attend last edition of the games.

Tandoh said, "the results have shown that what the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is doing in sports through the Sports Commission in Lagos State is yielding results and futuristic.

"Since the beginning of this year, we have been exposing these athletes to various school sports championships to put them in good shape for any national competition. The National Youth Games has been a good platform to test them and I can see that they didn't disappoint us."

Tandoh revealed that the Youth Games gave the young athletes the chance to showcase their strength in competitive competitions.
