Community Cries for Road Water
Residents Karuma area in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State have made a passionate appeal to both the state government to as matter of urgency address ecological challenges in the area.
Some of the residents, who spoke with newmen, described the ecological problem in the area as a big threat to their survival.
They said the problem had led to untimely death of many residents, while many had been sacked from their homes.
The residents explained that many deep rivers had been developed in the stream due to age long neglect by the previous governments.
These deep rivers according to them had become the death traps for the residents.
They said their efforts to control the erosion problems before it becomes ecological problems have not yielded positive result.
A resident, Abdulwasiu Kososi, said the stream had become the major route for students of Karuma primary school and other private schools in the areas.
He said "The elderly ones were getting drown in the deep rivers that have developed in this stream due to age long neglect before we talk of our children that pass though this place every day.
"We residents have tried our best to put this thing in good condition but it's beyond our efforts unless government comes to our aid.
Another resident, Abdulrahaman Suleiman, said he recently lost a brother to one of the deep rivers while making attempt to rescue a boy.
He said another life was also lost last year in the same place.
Calling on government to urgently come their aids, he said properties worth millions of naira had been lost to the ecological problems in the areas.
Other residents, who spoke with newsmen, made a passionate appeal to government at all levels to come to their aid in addressing ecological problems in the areas.
