Peaceful Palm Sunday held in Ilorin

Christians across the World on Sunday trooped out in large numbers to observe palm Sunday marking the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem over two thousand years ago.

The procession round major roads also marked the end of the forty days fasting and the commencement of Passion Week.

In Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Christians gathered at Saint Barnabas Cathedral, Sabo-Oke, for the procession that commenced at exactly fifteen minutes past nine in the morning and lasted over four hours.

?The procession passed through Muritala way, Maraba, Amilegbe, Ipata, Opo-Malu, part of Emi's road, Taiwo Isale, Unity, Post Office and ended at Saint Barnabas Cathedral.

Another batch started the procession from First Baptist Church, Surulere, Kwara State General Hospital, Uper Taiwo and linked up with ?the first batch at Unity road.

Addressing the congregation?, the Chairman of the State Christian Association of Nigeria, Evangelist Timothy Opoola charged them to fear God and serve Him in truth with all their heart.

Evangelist Opoola, who is a Professor of Mathematics, condemned the killings in some Northern states, calling on the federal government to address the trend.

The Chairman also called on the Federal government to go into negotiations and work towards the release of the Dapchi School girl and the remaining Chibok girls ?being held by boko haram.

Also speaking, the former State Secretary of CAN, Reverend Olusola Ajolore implored Christians to register to vote and participate actively in politics to elect Candidates of their choice.

Prophet Emmanuel Alonge of C. A. C Oke-Imole Ogidi Oloje headquarters, Ilorin called on Christians to be humble, emulate the exemplary style of Jesus Christ and let the Lenten period have impact in their lives.

Prophet Alonge advised those in position of authority to be upright and make the people the candid focus of their programmes.

?Reverend James Adedoyin of ECWA, Ita Elepa, Ilorin urged Christians to have trust and faith in the Lord to deliver them from all challenges.

?In an interview with Newsmen, the Chairman Planning Committee of the Palm Sunday, Pastor Ben Alotan described the exercise as successful and hitch-free.

Pastor Alotan commended the peaceful conduct of the people which was a pointer to the peace and harmony in the State.

Activities marking Easter will continue with the observation of Passion Week, Good Friday and Easter Monday, next week.
