Oyeleke: Recall Process Responsibility Of INEC HQ-Official

Date: 2018-02-13

Jacob Ayanda, the Head of Publicity and Voters Education at the Independent Electoral Commission in Kwara, says the recall process of any elected representative is the sole responsibility of the commission's national headquarters.

Ayanda, who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin, was reacting to the controversy generated over the recall process against the House Leader in the Kwara House of Assembly, Hassan Oyeleke.

The INEC official said the concerned constituents of Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun State Constituency seeking the recall of Oyeleke had been directed to INEC headquarters in Abuja to pursue their case.

He said: "They have been directed to our national headquarters because we are not the one that will recall him.

"There are certain criteria that must be met before such process."

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that some members of Oyeleke's constituency had accused him of lack of quality representation in the assembly.

The group led by Muftau Adeyemo had earlier presented a certified copy of its letters of protest to the assembly, INEC and the Commissioner of Police in the state.

The group accused Oyeleke of failing in his responsibilities to initiate or support any motion aimed at delivering on any of his promises to the constituency.

The group also said that Oyeleke had failed to influence a single project to his constituency since his first tenure in 2011 till date.

But Oyeleke had since denied the allegations, claiming that those calling for his recall were being used by his political rivals.
