Kwara Assembly to Hold Public Hearing on Ilorin Township Bill 2017
The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, while referring the bill the House Committee on Ethnics, Privileges and Judiciary for further legislative actions, called for an all inclusive public hearing on the bill, to give fair hearing to all concerned, pointing out that the bill, is a geography specific law, aimed at redressing social menace against the culture and religious belief of a particular area.
He cited the United States of America, United Arab Emirate where such law was in existence to curb social menance, in a particular geographical location.

Members had while debating the general principles of the bill, expressed divergent views on the desirability or otherwise for the law. The Deputy House Leader Hon Segilola Abdul-Kadir, who sponsored the private bill, while urging her colleagues to support the passage of the bill, said the law became necessary to dissuade our youth from anti-social behaviour inimical to the culture of Ilorin Emirate.
While ,most members were in support of the bill, some were of the view that the bill was against the secular nature of the Country, and not in tandem with the nation' s Constitution, and urged the Parliament not to compound the current unemployment and other socio-economic problems, which the bill they contended would create, if passed into law.
