Vaccine Scare: Request for ID card from officials, KWSG tells residents

Date: 2017-10-24

The Kwara State Government has urged people in the state to demand proper identification of health workers administering vaccines before being vaccinated.

Speaking on the backdrop of the vaccine scare in the state, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Suleiman Atolagbe Alege, in a telephone chat with our reporter on Saturday, maintained that the rumour of killer vaccine in the state is unfounded.

He restated that the state government is not in collaboration with the Nigeria Army on vaccination, adding that staff of the ministry have been adequately trained for the exercise.

"We don't collaborate with the Nigeria Army to vaccinate, we do it our way and since we have been vaccinating, there had not been any casualty and we pray there won't be any.

Speaking further, Alege said that no fewer than 502 people had been vaccinated in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

"People are now beginning to understand that the vaccination is mainly for the prevention of Yellow Fever infection and they are cooperating, "he stated.

Alege stressed that the Yellow Fever vaccination is important for the medical well being of the people and for those travelling outside the country.

He said, "There will be massive campaign against Yellow Fever next year and Kwara state will be joining all other states of the federation in this regard..

He expressed optimism that the disease would be defeated in the country, just as he advised residents to keep calm, adding that the present administration of Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed is committed to ensuring the wellbeing of all and sundry.
