The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticised tax regime imposed on both councillorship and chairmanship aspirants for the forthcoming local government elections by the state independent electoral commission (KWASIEC), describing it as obnoxious.

Rising from a stakeholders' meeting of the party in Ilorin on Wednesday, the opposition party condemned uniform tax on the aspirants for the council elections scheduled for November 18, 2017, saying that normal requirement for aspirants in any election was tax clearance certificate.

Speaking with journalists, the caretaker committee chairman of the party, Chief Tunde Akindehin, urged the state government to rescind the law, saying that the party would not hesitate to employ legal action against the state electoral body if not withdrawn.
