NBBF invites Kwara Falcons players to national team

Following sterling performances at the just-conclude Kwese Premier Basketball League Conference 6 Playoffs, Ilorin-based Kwara Falcons Club star players, David Godwin and Mojuba Oyeleye, has been invited to the national team, D'Tigers.

The club's Secretary, Azeez Bello, confirmed their call-up by the Nigeria basketball Federation (NBBF) on Thursday in Ilorin. The players' would join other to prepare for the 2017 Men's Afrobasket Championship to be jointly staged by Tunisia and Senegal in September.

Bello said the club had received their invitation letters from the NBBF, noting that the players were instrumental to Falcons' successful regular season and the Conference 6 Playoffs.

"We have received a letter from the NBBF for two of our players to join the other home-based players in Lagos ahead of the Afrobasket championship and we have released them," Bello said.

One of the players, Oyeleye described the call up as a dream come true, saying he never saw it coming.

"To be honest with you, I feel elated. I never saw it coming; it's a joy to be selected to represent the country. "I believe it's a testament to how far I have been progressing. "Also, playing with Kwara Falcons is fulfilling and my coaches and teammates have been excellent," he said.

Head Coach of Kwara Falcons, Adewunmi Aderemi, said the national call was a mark of honour.

"It's a national call to duty, so they have to honour their fatherland. Let's forget about politics because we are not politicians. "I am part of the national team setup but I am just an assistant, it's left for the head coach, Alex Nwora, to decide may be they are good enough to make the final list," Aderemi said.
