Stakeholders okay Bilqees Oladimeji for NAWOJ Presidency

Date: 2017-04-09

Stakeholders under the aegis of Kwara State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have adopted Hajia Bilqees Modupe Oladimeji as presidential candidate in the forthcoming election of National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

Hajia Oladimeji is Deputy President of NAWOJ.

Rising from a marathon meeting held in Ilorin on Wednesday, which lasted for three hours, the stakeholders resolved that the Deputy President of NAWOJ has not disappointed the state council in her representation at the apex level of the association.

They said it was necessary for the state to take shot in the Presidency of the female Journalists association with a view to offering quality leadership and representation.

They maintained that Kwara cannot play second fiddle in the scheme of things and it was time to advance to the top seat of the NAWOJ.

The State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem, who conveyed the position of the stakeholders forum at a briefing, said there was nothing wrong for Kwara representative to make herself available for the covetous Presidency seat.

He disclosed that the forum had begun consultations with relevant stakeholders in other councils on the need to support Hajia Oladimeji for the position.

Abdulkareem assured that the NAWOJ Presidential hopeful from the state would continue to be a good ambassador of the council, adding that she would not disappoint the association.

"The Stakeholders' Forum of the Kwara State council of Nigeria Union of Journalists had met and resolved that Hajia Bilqees Modupe Oladimeji be adopted as Presidential candidate in the forthcoming NAWOJ election.

"It is in line with our conviction that Hajia Oladimeji, who is presently the Deputy President of NAWOJ, has not disappointed the council in her representation at the apex level of NAWOJ. We have therefore resolved that she vies for the post of President so that she can further offer her best for the association.

"As a formidable union at the state level, it is not fair for us to play second fiddle. The Kwara State NUJ has been in the forefront in terms of Journalism Union going by the record, and it is high time we make ourselves available for the service to humanity. It is our belief that our candidate would not disappoint if given the opportunity to serve", Abdulkareem said.
