Campaign funds: Ask Jonathan, Kwara PDP tells APC

Date: 2017-02-23

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has asked the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government to stop persecuting opposition figures in the country over the 2015 general elections campaign funds.

It equally condemned the last Monday police blockade of the International Conference Centre, Abuja where the Senator Ahmad Makarfi -led caretaker committee of the PDP was billed to hold its meeting.

The party said if there was any issue about PDP's campaign funds during the last general elections, such inquiry should be directed at former President Goodluck Jonathan and not the politicians who ran errand for him.

The PDP, in a statement signed by its factional chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, made specific reference to the ongoing trial of a former National Planning minister, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman and Mr Dele Belgore (SAN), who was the coordinator of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign organisation in the state, over N450 million campaign funds.

It equally wondered why the ruling government did not begin charity at home by first probing the APC campaign funds.
