Fire razes building in Ilorin
Properties worth millions of naira were perished in an early morning inferno that consumed a building at Ita-Amodu Street in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Sunday.
The fire, which reportedly occurred at about 2am, threw residents and shop owners into confusion as they watched helplessly while fire razed down their belongings.
The cause of the fire out break could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, but a sympathizer at the scene of the incident told reporters that the fire occurred as a result of power surge.
The building, which consists of residential areas and shops, was completely burnt down.
When our reporter visited, fire fighters from the State Fire Service were having hectic time putting out the inferno.
Some men from the state police command were also on ground to ensure orderliness while the rescue operation lasted.
Sympathizers were however stunned when the fire fighters disclosed that water in the tank has been exhausted while the fire rages on.
Some of the items lost to the incident included building materials, electrical appliances, clothing materials and an unspecified amount of money among others.
At about 4am when our correspondent left the scene, sympathizers were still watching helplessly as the fire continues.
