Maiduguri blast : Kwara State University to intensify security measures

Date: 2017-01-18

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete said that it would intensify security measures in the school to ensure the safety of lives and property of members of staff and students.

The institution's Director of University Relations, Isiaka Aliagan, made this known in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday. Aliagan said the measures were necessary following Monday's bomb blast at the University of Maiduguri.

He said though the management had always been security conscious, more efforts would be made to ensure adequate protection of students, staff and visitors.

"Security has always been an everyday affair in the school and we do not compromise because we don't always want to wait for emergency situations. "We work with our security men and the security agencies to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

"But with what happened in Maiduguri yesterday coupled with the warning from the state police command last week that we should all be wary of Boko Haram members that are scattered everywhere, we have to be more careful. "We are now putting in extra effort and we are now more security conscious than before.

"Although, before now, anyone that wants to enter the compound has to be thoroughly screened and searched, but that isn't going to be enough now. "We will intensify our efforts to ensure that everyone will be safe," Aliagan said.

Recall that the Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Olushola Amore had in a statement on Friday warned Kwara residents to be security conscious following threat posed by recent dislodgement of Boko Haram insurgents from Sambisa forest.

Amore said there was the possibility of the insurgents infiltrating Kwara and he warned residents of the state to watch out for person or persons seeking asylum or shelter in different communities in the state.
