PDP boss charges Nigerians on act of giving
A call has gone to Nigerians to always donate generously towards the development of the less privileged in the society.
The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, made the call in Ilorin at the weekend.
Speaking when he visited Kwara State Children Reception Centre in Ilorin, the state capital, where he donated food items and toiletries to the children as part of the activities to mark his 61st birthday, he noted that it was necessary for wealthy individuals to visit such homes to have a feel of what the poor people pass through.
He said if people cultivated the habit of visiting homes for the less privileged, it will go a long way in giving hope to those who believed situation in life had gone bad for them, thinking there can't be any hope in the future.
Represented by his son, who is also the Special Adviser to the Kwara state governor on Housing and Urban Matters, Mr Biodun Baraje, the PDP boss promised to continue to assist the poor within his available resources.
"I want to believe that every member of this community or Nigeria, as a country, has a role to play in the development of his or her neighbour and the people in the larger society," he said.
He said that if many of those children at the various reception centres across the country were well taken care of, they could be good assets to the country in the future.
He also commended the workers of the reception centre for their effort at ensuring clean environment and habitable surrounding.
Speaking after receiving the items donated to the home, the officer in charge of the Kwara State Children Reception Centre, Ilorin, Hajiya Iyabo Aduke Maiyaki, thanked Alhaji Baraje for the gesture.
She promised that all the items donated will be utilized for the purpose they were meant forShe explained that although, the children can not talk, they knew that people were around and materials were brought for them.
She called on all Nigerians to emulate the gesture by visiting the reception centre once in a while to show love to the children.
