Gombe United Saturday jolted the promotion hopes of Kwara United when they shocked the home team 1-0 in a Nigeria National League (NNL) match played in Ilorin.

Gombe have shot to the top of Group A2, while Kwara with 20 points slip behind Dreams FC, who also lost 1-0 at Adamawa United.

'The Afonja Warriors', under former Flying Eagles coach John Obuh, are seeking a prompt return to the top flight after they were relegated last season.

Incidentally, Obuh first won them promotion back to the top league seven years ago.

Gombe United, Kwara United and Dreams FC, owned by former Lobi Stars chieftain Dominic Iorfa, are now involved in a tight promotion race.

Katsina United, 5-0 winners over Shekarau Babes of Kano, and Remo Stars are in pole positions for promotion in A1 and B1 groups of the NNL, respectively.
