KWHA to pass 2016 budget this week, approves 3 more SAs
The Speaker Dr Ali Ahmad gave the assurance in Ilorin while speaking at resumption of sitting by legislators after two weeks of ministerial budget defence by MDAs in the State.
Ahmad assured that this year would witness unprecedented implementation of budget in the State, especially in the areas of education, health, road construction, disbursement of scholarship and bursary to students saying that the legislators at various Committee levels are now at the final stage of passing the budget into law.
He assured that the legislature under his watch would intensify efforts in its oversight function to ensure proper implementation of this year's budget.
Meanwhile the State House of Assembly has approved three additional Special Advisers for the State Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed to facilitate smooth running of government.
The House gave the approval following a message from the Governor and read at the floor of the House by the Speaker Dr Ali Ahmad.
The Governor had in his message to the Speaker said the approval became imperative in view of the exigencies of governance at this critical period of administration and facilitate smooth and hitch free governance desirable for effective distribution of the dividends of democracy across the State.
The House equally received an executive bill titled Secret Cults and Secret Societies in Kwara State (Prohibition bill 2016 for passage into law.
The bill was contained in a message by the Governor to the Speaker said the increase in the activities of cultists and secret societies in the State which according to him had led to attendant loss of lives and properties and uneasiness in the populace.
The bill which seeks to repeal the Secret Societies and Cults (Prohibition) law No 15 of 2013 is to pave way for more effective and stringent provisions to curb the menace in the State.
The Speaker while directing the House Committee on Rules and Business to schedule the bill for legislative processing said the law was apt to make it responsive to the dictates of the moment.
He assured that the House would ensure speedy passage of the bill.
The Legislature equally approved the restructuring of N2.7billion loan from Ecobank for Sixteen Local Government Councils to address the increasing interest rate accruing from the bank loan.
