Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer in Kwara State was on Wednesday killed during a gun battle with suspected vandals of petroleum pipelines at Osin Laduba village in Asa LGA of the state while another was injured during the confrontation.

It was learnt that the suspected vandals who engaged the security agents also lost one of their members. Daily Trust gathered that the men of the NSCDC had stormed the area upon a tip-off that the pipeline vandals were operating in the area.

A source who pleaded anonymity said the NSCDC men stormed the area around 1:00am to apprehend the vandals but ran into an ambush by one NSCDC man identified as Kadiriya Abdulkadir was killed . He has been buried at his family residence in Ile Sokoto, Oke-Kere, Ilorin.

The injured officer was taken to an undisclosed hospital in Ilorin where he is said to be recuperating. It was gathered that 10 suspected vandals have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The spokesman of the NSCDC, Henry Bilesanmi said he could not comment on the issue because he had not been authorized to do so.
