Former NASS Clerk Advocates Total Legislative Autonomy
Former clerk of the National Assembly, Mr Niyi Ajiboye, has made a case for the legislative arm of government to be granted total autonomy.
Ajiboye stated this at the retreat for members of the Kwara State House of Assembly, where he observed that the executive had dominated the nation's democratic setting.
He maintained that giving the legislature the required platform to operate would enhance its operation.
He urged the lawmakers to acquaint themselves with the constitution and house standing orders, adding that going for oversight duty requires the legislators to be knowledgeable about the projects slated for inspection.
Another resource person at the workshop, Dr Shuaib Danwanka, who spoke extensively on principles and techniques of drafting motions, enjoined the legislators to sponsor as many motions as possible.
The House Leader, Alhaji Hassan Oyeleke, the member representing Ilorin East, Hajiya Aishat Bodunrin and Alhaji Ahmed ibn Muhammed of Kaiama/Wajibe/Kemanji Constituency, said the workshop had effectively equipped them for legislative duties.
