Kwara Utd Want Govt Motivation
Kwara United media officer, Omolewa Olayinka believes the players have done enough on the pitch and only needs financial motivation to play to its optimum and beat the drop.
The Ilorin based club is one of the clubs whose chances of competing in the elite cadre next season is hanging on a thin thread.
To this end, the players are pleading with the Kwara state government to come up with the incentives that can motivate them in the remaining five games left to end the 2014/15 season.
After 33 matches, the Harmony Boys are placed 18th on the log, tied on 35 points with Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt and four points away from safety as FC Taraba United on 33 points and Bayelsa United FC on 30 points prop up the log.
Olayinka said reasoned that having spent just one season in the Glo Premier League top ranks, the Ilorin side would want to avoid immediate return to the lower league as the team is not ready to face another Nigeria National League (NNL) battle. He said this explains the measures that are now being Adopted to win maximum points from the remaining five matches.
"In the last few weeks, our players have consistently vowed that Kwara United will not drop to the lower division because they know how difficult it is to play there having been part of the lower league last season hence they don't want to go back there again. For all of us so connected to Kwara United, there is an awareness of how much we need to contribute to make sure that the club remains in the Glo Premier League.
"We have demonstrated to our owner, the government of Kwara State that at this stage of the season money is needed to motivate the boys to enable them give their best and help the team avoid relegation. We have to make sure that they are comfortable at all times to produce good results. The government is aware of what to do and is ready to release the necessary fund to motivate the boys to deliver the results that the whole state is expecting".
