Kwara Community Decries Lack of Amenities

Date: 2015-10-04

The indigenes of Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara on Friday, appealed to Buhari to come to their aid by constructing roads and bridges in the area to boost socio-economic activities of the people.

The group, under the aegis of Patigi Emirates Development Union, said that such infrastructure would also boost food production and distribution in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the National President of the group, Mr Umar Bologi, the people said the area had natural endowments to produce enough food for the country.

"Despite having the capacity to feed the nation and contribute to its wealth, Patigi Local Government is practically cut off from the entire country because of lack of roads and bridges.

"The Federal Government should assist in constructing a bridge across the confluence of Rivers Niger and Kaduna as well as construct a road linking Patigi to Bida North and Ilorin West.

"This will reduce the congestion of Bida-Mokwa road, Abuja-Lokoja road and thousands of lives lost through road accidents on those roads will be drastically reduced. "This request is also to boost the socio-economic activities of Nigeria as a whole," the group said.

It also asked the government to intervene in the rehabilitation of Tsaragi-Gbugbu-Patigi road and Nupeko-Bida road.

The group also solicited the assistance of government in completing the NTA station which construction was abandoned 12 years ago and to upgrade Government Technical College, Patigi, to a university or polytechnic.

It said that the school had produced many engineers who were making contributions to human development.
