Players' welfare, our priority - Kwara Utd boss
In a chat with SportingLife, the former chairman of the Kwara State Sports Council, who took over from Toyin Olokoba, believes his antecedents in sports administrator will help in moving the team forward.
"Players are the main actors and I believe they deserve more in terms of welfare packages. So, I will ensure that the players' welfare remains top priority. Our job has been made easy because before we came in, the government had released money for the payment of 100 percent signing-on fees for the players; this is unprecedented in the history of the club. We have never seen such kind of gesture from the government. This has no doubt boosted the morale of the players ahead of subsequent matches.
"As the chairman of the newly-constituted board of Kwara United, my instant aim is to see that we move the club forward from the current position. We met the team on the 5th spot in the Nigeria Premier League and I want to use this opportunity to assure our teeming fans of a continental ticket at the end of the season."
Aluko said he has all the experience to lead the Afonja Warriors to the promised land.
"I was a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly; I was in several committees including the Sports Committee of the Assembly then. After I left the House, I became the Chairman, Kwara State Sports Council, and that I did for about three years till all the boards were dissolved last year after the tenure of former Governor, Senator Bukola Saraki. Also, I'm the 2nd Vice President, Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria. So, if you put all these together, nobody can say I'm a novice in sports administration", he noted.
Kwara United will play away to Akwa United at the Uyo Township Stadium in one of today's Week 30 fixtures. The Ilorin-based club have taken 40 points from a possible 78.
