Buhari's ministers: Gambari may make list

Date: 2015-09-18

Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki may have lost out in his expected role as the political leader of Kwara State in picking the nominees for the state's ministerial slots in President Mohammadu Buhari's cabinet.

There were indications yesterday that President Buhari had penciled the National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC; Alhaji Lai Mohammed and former Foreign Affairs Minister and Representative to the United Nations, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, both indigenes of Kwara State for appointments.

Two others; former Finance Commissioner and a renowned chieftain of the rested Congress for Progressive Change, CPC and later of the APC, Alhaji Nurudeen Mohammed; as well as Alhaji Saliu Mohammed have equally been said to be picked for possible appointment by the resident.

Senator Saraki, since 2003 when he became the governor of the state and later, a senator had been the sole nominator of political appointees from the state at both national and state levels

As a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, he singlehandedly nominated all those that became ministers, the incumbent governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, commissioners, local government chairmen, councilors, federal and state chairmen, board members and parastatals in the state.

However, on Thursday news went round that former Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi and former Acting National Chairman of PDP, Kawu Baraje who had earlier been nominated by the Senate President would not make the President's list.

Senator Saraki is reportedly not to be in good terms with the President following the manner he emerged Senate President which was against the directive of the APC hierarchy.
