Kwara State House of assembly yesterday directed its Committees on Ethics, Privileges, Judiciary and that of Education to summon Rector of the state polytechnic and state Ministry of Education over cult activities in the state.

The House equally directed the committees to liaise with security agencies, religious leaders and traditional rulers on how to curb the menace of cult activities in the state.

The House gave the directives after adopting a motion on cult activities in some parts of llorin moved by Kamal Fagbemi, representing Oke-Ogun constituency.

Fagbemi, under matter of urgent public importance, informed the House that cult activities perpetrated by suspected students of Kwara Polytechnic were causing havoc in the state.

He said the situation led to the death of 16 people at different parts of the state capital, Ilorin.

All members who contributed to the motion condemned the act of cultism and called for proactive measures to put an end to it.

Speaker of the Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, said the rector must appear before the House as soon as possible.
