Senate presidency: Saraki, Mark end feud
The seeming feud between former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, and the representative of Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki, has been resolved.
A source in the National Assembly told The Eagle Online that the two men buried their hatchet in order to find a common ground in the race for the presidency of the Senate.
While Saraki, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, is interested in the seat, Mark, who is regarded as the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Senate, is seeking relevance for his party.
The feud between the two men came into the open with the criticism of the 7th Senate, headed by Mark by Saraki.
Saraki described the 7th Senate as a failure.
But in the bid to remain relevant in the scheme of things in the Senate, the two highly rated politicians were reported to have buried their differences.
It was learnt that Mark has agreed to secure the block vote of the PDP for Saraki, while the former Kwara State governor has agreed to the emergence of a deputy from the fold of the PDP.
Being touted as Saraki's deputy, if the alliance sails through, is Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who was also Mark's deputy in the 7th Senate.
Saraki and the leadership of the APC fell out after the party announced Senator Ahmad Lawan as the sole candidate for the Senate presidency.
Saraki said the choice of who emerges as the Senate president will be decided by the whole house on Tuesday after the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.
