Group urges Kwara govt to return mission schools
The Diocese of Offa, Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion) has called on the Kwara State Government to allow the owners of mission schools to fully take over the running of such institutions.
The church made the appeal in a communique signed by the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Akintunde Popoola.
The church said it was important to ensure that the schools offered the pupils quality education and godly teachings.
"The synod resolved that we should take over from the government the running of our mission schools so that the vision of the founding fathers, which is a genuine quality and standard education under the fear of a loving God can be restored," it said.
But the state Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who said the state government was willing to return the schools, added that legal procedures must be adhered in doing that.
