Dwindling Allocations Affecting Kwara - Gov Ahmed
Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed yesterday reviewed the financial position of the state in the past few months and concluded that the dwindling monthly allocations from the federation account had put Kwara in a tight financial corner.
He therefore urged workers to be ready to make sacrifices to move the state forward.
Governor Ahmed said this in Ilorin, the state capital at this year workers’ day celebration where he insisted that his administration was irrevocably committed to its shared prosperity mantra for the betterment of the people of the state.
He said “Government remains committed to sustain and improve the welfare and wellbeing of civil servants in the state. But we all must be ready to make good sacrifices for the development of the state.”
He hailed the workers for casting their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded general elections in the country.
Represented by the state Head of Service, Alhaji Mohammed Dabarako, the governor urged the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to shun divisive tendencies.
He urged the losers of the NLC March election to emulate President Goodluck Jonathan’s sportsmanship spirit in congratulating the president-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) ahead of his declaration as the winner of the March 28th presidential elections.
Earlier, new NLC state Chairman, Comrade Yekini Agunbiade congratulated General Buhari on his victory at the poll, praying that “God will give him all the needed strength, wisdom, courage and resources to achieve his electioneering promises for the betterment of our great nation.”
Comrade Agunbiade knocked the privatisation process of the liquidated Nigerian Paper Mill Limited, Jebba describing it “greatest fraud of the century.”
He said the process “Saw the workers of the company grossly underpaid apart from the outstanding salary arrears that ranged from January 1996 to March, 2001.
“It is on this note that the congress passionately appeals to the federal government especially the incoming president Gen Buhari to use his good office to revisit their issue and save the remnants of these workers since they were not on monthly pension”.
