Buhari's victory divine – Kwara Muslims
The Kwara State Muslim Stakeholders representing Muslims in the 16 local government areas of the state have described the victory of General Mohammadu Buhari in the last presidential election as divine.
The group in a statement endorsed by its Chairman and pioneer Grand Khadi of the state Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Abdulkadir Orire, said the successful conduct of the election was made possible through the prayers of religious leaders in the country.
The statement urged Buhari to justify the confidence reposed in him by the electorate and lead with the fear of God. Orire, who noted that expectations of Nigerians are high, urged the president-elect to strive to unite Nigerians. He equally commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat, saying the action helped to douse tension in the country.
"We call for calm and the sustenance of peace and stability in the country. We also urge the president-elect to see his victory as divine. It was not by his making but the decree of Almighty Allah. While we can vouch for the integrity and incorruptibility of the president-elect, we advise him to justify the huge confidence reposed in him by leading with fear of God bearing in mind that expectations of Nigerians are high. General Buhari should strive to unite Nigerians and run his government devoid of ethnic, tribal or religious sentiment.
He should appoint only people who are "competent", the statement read. The statement urged imams, clerics and the entire Muslims in the country to continue to pray for the state and the country for peaceful governorship and states Assembly elections.
