Opposition Candidate Accuses Ruling Kwara APC of Deceit
The governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, Simeon Ajibola, has accused the state government of deceiving indigenes in order to win the April 11 election by making bogus claims on its achievements.
Ajibola, who was on a campaign tour of Kwara South district, said it was immoral and fraudulent for Ahmed to list the uncompleted Center for Vocational Training at Ajasse-Ipo as one of its achievements "because government cannot lay exclusive claim to its funding."
"Apart from refurbishing a few general hospitals, the only project this government can point to is the Vocation and Skills Acquisition Centre at Ajasse-Ipo, which is yet to admit one trainee," he told the Ajasse-Ipo Council of Chiefs. "I understand they are still waiting for the equipment after several millions have been spent.
"To put the records straight, that project was funded by contributions from federal lawmakers, including myself, under the Kwara State National Assembly Joint Projects. We contributed N1.5 billion for that project and my contribution is N500 million.
"There are many other projects funded through this arrangement, of which the state government is fraudulently claiming sole credit. We have the cargo terminal in Ilorin, Asa Water Works High Lift Pump, Tada-Shonga Irrigation Project, and the Kisi Boundary-Baruten Road in Kwara North."
Earlier, at the palace of Olofa of Offa, Oba Mustapha Gbadamosi, Esuwoye 11, Ajibola said the PDP would provide a more purposeful government committed to genuine freedom and development. He lauded the royal father for attracting socio-economic projects to his domain even as he promised to run a transparent government.
The Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, also assured the monarch that the Federal Government would not renege on its promise to re-award the road linking Offa to Ajasse-Ipo, which has been abandoned by a previous contractor, explaining that government cannot sidetrack due process to avoid litigation from contractors.
However, the Senior Special Assistant to Ahmed on Media, Dr. Muideen Akorede, has challenged Ajibola to provide evidence of his contribution to the vocational centre or any other state government-funded project, insisting that all the projects were funded by the state government through bank facilities that have now been repaid.
He noted that Ahmed won election with a pledge to complete all inherited projects and start new ones, and has not only fulfilled that pledge but has also started new projects in all sectors.
