Women Will Determine Candidates' Fate At Polls, Says Ahmed
Nigerian women will determine the direction of the pendulum of victories at the forthcoming general elections, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has said.
Speaking when Aishat, the wife of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, paid him a courtesy visit, Ahmed noted that any political party that has the support of women - put at about 55 per cent of the nation's population - would win the polls.
"Our women are in focus today because of their number," he said. "Therefore, for any society to move forward, it must look into the role of women. They have that population in this country that can determine the electoral success of any candidate."
He thanked indigenes for maintaining peace and harmony since its existence despite its multi-cultural and religious diversities, adding, though, that only an APC government at both state and federal levels could guarantee more roles and dividends of democracy for the women and the masses.
The governor said the party's political structure in the state was laid some 40 years ago by the late political leader, Dr. Olusola Saraki, and that it would be a tall dream for any modern day politician to dislodge it, assuring instead a total victory for the party at the polls.
Responding, Aishat, who was accompanied by Oludolapo, the wife of the party's vice presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, among others, said she was in Kwara to educate the eligible masses, a majority of whom she claimed were supporting her husband, on how to rightly cast their votes for the APC candidate.
"Lessons on the APC logo is very important at this stage, especially for the masses routing for us. It is better for them to know that the logo is no longer corn but broom," she said.
"This is vital due to the fact that Buhari had moved from one party to another before getting to APC, a mega party formed by many political parties."
