Court Remands Two Farmers Over Cattle Theft
An Ilorin magistrate's court has ordered that two farmers, Kazeem Kusamatu and Waheed Isiaka, both of Agbamu village in Kwara State, be remanded at the federal prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, for allegedly robbing a man of his cows.
The suspects were arraigned before the court on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The incidence was reported on February 20, 2015 at Agbamu divisional police station by one Abdullahi Ahmed of Gaa-Elega via Agbamu village.
Ahmed had alleged that at about 3:45am on the said date, four hoodlums came to his camp and attacked him with dangerous weapons, tied him and his family members with ropes and locked them up in a room, after which they stole four cows valued at N600, 000.
According to the victim, his wife, Aishat Ahmed correctly identified one Kazeem (first accused) to be one of the robbers.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that when Kazeem was arrested, he confessed to the crime and further mentioned Waheed Isiaka and one Biodun (now at large) as members of the gang.
The police prosecutor, Corporal Foluke Akosile, objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the determination of the matter.
In his ruling, Magistrate N. A. Ndakene accepted the submission of the prosecutor and ordered the detention of the suspects at federal prison, Oke-Kura.
