NEMA DG warns on post-election violence

Date: 2015-03-18

Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mohammad Sani Sidi, yesterday decried the violence that trailed the 2011 election, noting that the lives and property lost in the incident cannot be replaced.

He spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State, during a workshop on danger of post election violence. Represented by the Coordinator, Minna Operations office of the agency, Mr. Slaku Lugard Bijimi, the NEMA DG described the 2011 post election violence as unfortunate, saying "Even innocent corps members also died. Coincidentally, the key players in that election are still the same".

"As citizens of this country, we are entitled to a peaceful transition because Nigeria does not belong to an individual or group of individuals, but to all of us. Our youths should know that they are truly the future of tomorrow. Political activities should aim at uniting and not dividing Nigerians", he said.
