Kwara CP urges youth to shun illicit acts

Date: 2015-02-26

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Salihu Garba has called on the youth to avoid acts capable of disrupting the existence of peace and tranquility in the state.

He described the recent spate of cultism, political thuggery and other nefarious acts in the state as disturbing.

Alhaji Garba stated this on Wedneday when contingent of the Kwara State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria paid him a courtesy visit at the Police Headquarters in Ilorin, the state capital.

While condemning such illicit acts, the Commissioner advocated sustained synergy with critical stakeholders to effectively stamp them out from the state.

Alhaji Garba, who recalled the recent recovery of about one hundred and seventy guns from a local manufacturer and subsequent arrest of thirteen suspected cultists, said the Command would not relent in its effort to contain the situation.

The State Commissioner of Police however, applauded the youth council for being proactive in its approach to champion the course of sustainable development and charged the youth not to succumb to the misguided antics of politicians but contribute their positive quota to sustaining the on-going democratic process.

Earlier, the Chairman of the State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Kazeem Adekanye had described the youth as potential agents of positive change, capable of engineering the process of desired development in the society.

He described the visit by the non-partisan body as a pro-active measure to seek intensified collaboration with the Police Command in proffering notable solution to the recent trend in the political terrain and cult clashes in the state.

The Council Chairman, who identified the youth group as a conglomerate of different voluntary organisations across the state, restated its determination to continue to re-orientate the youth to shun all acts capable of causing disharmony in the State.

Comrade Adekanye also commended the proactive security measures of the present administration in curtailing crime and the appreciative level of professionalism of the State Police Command in the discharge of its duties.
