Reps ambition: Teachers declare support for Atunwa
With few weeks to the February 2015 general elections in Nigeria, teachers and students of public schools in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State have declared their support for the House of Representatives ambition of Barr. Razak Atunwa as they unanimously endorsed him for the position.
The teachers under the aegis of Nigerian Union of Teachers- Asa local government chapter declared their support for Barrister Atunwa during the donation of educational support materials to twenty government schools selected from different parts of the local government.
The population of over 100 teachers and students who converged at LGEA Office Hall in Afon said they were strongly convinced by the gesture of Atunwa toward educational development, that he would serve the constituency better than he had done in other political offices held if he wins in the forthcoming election, hence their endorsement.
The Chairman of the Union in Asa, Mr. Balogun who spoke on behalf of the teachers group said the teachers endorsed Atunwa based on his honest concern and robust contribution to the education sector in the local government.
Mr. Balogun who lauded the gesture of Barr. Razak Atunwa for donating educational materials to schools in the local government, noted that the leadership of Atunwa has set a pace in his concern for educational development which would be difficult to meet by any other public office holder.
The chairman noted that even though education was not prioritized by a lot of political office holders in the nation, he said Atunwa remained a beacon of hope in educational development in the local government.
Similarly, Mrs. Juliana Ojo, a member of the teachers' union commended Barr. Atunwa stating that the emergence of his candidacy signified hope for the academia. She called on other political leaders to emulate the lawmaker.
In his remarks, Kale Ayo- the Director General of Atunwa Campaign Committee expressed gratitude to the teachers and students in Asa local government assuring that Barr. Atunwa was committed toward investing in the education sector and would dedicate his service in the Federal House when elected to the development of the constituency, with special concentration on the education sector.
Ayo charged the teachers on the need to translate their teaching skills to the electoral matters by schooling people from various spheres of life about the need to vote for the Progressives in the forthcoming elections.
Among twenty schools represented at the programme were GSS, Afon, Community Secondary Schools Ogele and Ogbondoroko, Oniyere Community Secondary School, Ansaru Islam Secondary School, C&S Laduba, JSS Sapafi, Budo Egba Secondary School, JSS Aiyegun, CHS Lasoju to mention a few.
