Second term depends on performance and merit - Saraki

Date: 2010-06-16

The Kwara State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki has declared that second term ticket for any serving Council Chairman in the forthcoming Local Government election in the State would be tied to performance and merit.

Dr. Saraki made the declaration yesterday in Ilorin while speaking with newsmen shortly after the Peoples Democratic Party caucus meeting held at the party secretariat.

The Governor, who disclosed that he has no anointed candidate for the Local Government election, emphasized on performance as a condition for getting the second term ticket by any of the council chairmen.

According to him, we must know the ability of those vying for various elective positions in the council poll as we are interested in only those who can perform to be able to deliver dividends of democracy to our people.

He assured that whoever emerged as a flag bearer of the party in any of the 16 Local Government Areas would perform, noting that gone were the days when candidates just emerged any how.

Dr Saraki, however, charged party members to go back to their wards and participate in the on-going voters’ registration exercise, pointing out that it was the only instrument that qualifies them to vote during election.
